Mommy Decorah Eagle lays second egg Feb. 20, 2012 (videos)

Hooray! Mommy Decorah Eagle laid a second egg on February 20, 2012 giving her two eggs that she is currently incubating. The eggciting (sorry, exciting) delivery was captured on the live eagle cam and you may see the video footage below. The video is fifteen minutes long and you can see the first egg “D1” in the nest. At approximately 8:45 into the video, you may see as Mommy Decorah Eagle delivers the second egg. If you fast-forward the video to 12:42, you will see Mommy Eagle as she hovers over two eggs.

The eggs are referred to as “D1” and “D2.”

Did you know that bald eagles are monogamous? Momma and Papa eagles are a mated and bonded pair and will remain together until something happens to one of the mates. The eagles continually return to the same nest on an annual basis as well. The eggs will be well taken care of and though we have seen several animals visit the nest before the eggs were delivered (owls, raccoons, mice, etc...) the eagles will remain at the nest on guard, keeping the eggs safe from predators.

It takes approximately 35 days for the eggs to hatch so we are looking at a time span of March 23-March 25. Bald Eagles usually deliver between one and three eggs, so there is a slight possibility another egg is on the way.

Check out the video below where Mama Eagle delivers the second egg!

Ma and Dad Decorah eagle perform double duty on Feb. 18, 2012

Ma and Dad Decorah eagle shared their parental duties during the early morning hours of February 18, 2012. At the 1:04 part of the video, you can see as the Daddy Eagle shows up as he is supposed to take care of the egg, yet goofs off. At 9:08 he actually takes off (just like a man, right), and you can hear Ma and Dad eagle bantering back and forth. Hmm, wonder what they are talking about, right?
Dad rolls first egg D1

Dad returns to the nest at 11:27 and at 12:25, you can see as Mom eagle flies off. Dad continues to goof off and at 14:16, finally gives mom the break she deserves by incubating the egg.
Amazing the similarities between the sexes in these raptors and humans, isn’t it?

Decorah Eagle lays first egg on February 17, 2012 (videos)

Well, it's finally here! Our favorite Decorah Eagle has lain her first egg on February 17, 2012. After plenty of courtship and lots of Valentine's Day romance, Ma Eagle has settled into her nest where she is currently incubating at least one egg. Hopefully we'll get a glimpse of more eggs tomorrow. You can watch the action on the live cam in the link above.

This egg will be referred to as "D1" and any subsequent eggs will be called "D2," "D3," and so on.

I don't know about you, but I'm excited! There is nothing like stopping the fast pace of our 9-5s and graveyard shifts and just stopping to enjoy a bit of nature at her finest, and what better than to watch the majestic Bald Eagle as they bond, mate, and carry on this journey of life.

Davenport Eagles: Eggs laid on Valentine's Day (videos)

Well, you couldn't have wrote this any more poetically.  After several mating sessions, one which occurred on February 14, 2012, Mother Davenport Eagle was seen laying two eggs.  You may see the eggs in the video captured by the Raptor Resource Project below.

You can see Mama Eagle spreading her feathers as she pushes out the second egg at 5:47 into the video.  You can even see both eggs by fast forwarding the video up to 7:28.

The more you learn about eagles, the more you can see how well they communicate and how much they truly love and are bonded with each other.  At approximately the 13:00 mark in the video, Daddy eagle arrives at the nest. We're still waiting for the Decorah Eagles to lay eggs.

Decorah Eagles mate on Valentine's Day 2012 (videos)

The Decorah Eagles were filmed mating on none other than Valentine's Day, February 14, 2012 in what will hopefully lead to the laying of eggs.  The eagles were also seen mating on February 3, 2012, so things look great and hopefully there will be up to four eaglets that will hatch this year.

Here is the video from the Raptor Resource Project showing the eagles spending a romantic Valentine's Day together.
